Aerie's mission is service. We serve our students by inspiring them to become compassionate, skilled care providers. We serve our employees with a supportive, creative work environment, good pay and the opportunity to teach. We serve the communities where we teach by supporting organizations that unite diverse groups of people in commonly shared environmental and social causes. We recognize the responsibilities inherent in training care providers, empowering them to help others in difficult moments and in challenging environments. Finally, we believe that providing care - and training those who will provide this care - are two of the most important acts that a person can perform; we are dedicated to succeeding as a business that can make this contribution.
Sustainable Practices, Products, & Services:
We are dedicated to supporting local employees, organizations and the communities where we teach. We have made a commitment to selling quality materials that are either locally made or made of sustainable materials (both, whenever possible). We are the only national wilderness-medicine provider that makes our own first aid kits and many of our course supplies. These kits are made in St. Ignatius by Thorn-Creek Sewing. Our shirts and other clothing are made in the US and/or made of all organic materials. This makes our merchandise more expensive than those of larger organizations, but we are not interested in selling cheap crap. We also offer a free health clinic each year to residents of a small community in Costa Rica. Aerie MDs, RNs and EMTs provide this service throughout the village, traveling to peoples' houses and setting up a hospital in the village center. We offer discounts and scholarships to organizations such as Northwest Connections, Ecology Project International, Buffalo Field Campaign and the Wild Rockies Field Institute.
