About Jeanette Rankin Peace Center: The Jeannette Rankin Peace Center exists to connect and empower people to build a socially just, non-violent and sustainable community and world. We are committed to a process of reflection, dialogue and action, both in times of crisis and in the ongoing work of peacemaking. We believe that informed, engaged citizens are the foundation of both democracy and peace, and aim our efforts at supporting both. The Fair Trade Store is a unique market and educational resource that is a source of viable support of our global neighbors for whom fair trade means a just, dignified, and environmentally sustainable alternative to corporate explotation. Profits from the store support peace efforts. Sustainable Practices, Products, & Services: The JRPC provides its employees with a living wage. We support Fair Trade which provides a living for many people/villages in the third world. In addition, many of our products are local and echo the belief in a living wage, the preservation of culture and community and safe and adequate working conditions. In all of our practices we incorporate recycling, reuse and reduction as we make business and purchasing decisions. Our building is an older downtown building and as we make improvements and/or repairs, we are choosing to use eco-friendly products and processes. Environmental stewardship is a key component of peace as identified in our mission statement, so we promote and partner with may such events and organizations locally and across the globe.
