Missoula Federal Credit Union

About Missoula Federal Credit Union:
Missoula Federal Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative governed by an elected, volunteer Board of Directors. We promote our members' financial well-being through innovation, education and exceptional service. Our field of membership is Lake, Missoula and Ravalli Counties--it doesn't get much more local!

Sustainable Practices, Products, & Services:

Important Dates & Facts:
On September 25, 1956, eight Missoula policemen formed Missoula Federal Credit Union when a fellow officer needed to borrow money. None of the officers were able to lend the money individually, but the group could collectively. The Credit Union was originally designed to serve employees of the City and County of Missoula and their families. Over the years, state employees, public school employees, the faculty and staff of the University of Montana, and employees of the Northern Pacific, Burlington Northern, AMTRAK, and Montana Rail Link railroads and their families became eligible due to mergers and expanding the field of membership. In 1981, MFCU was given a "community charter" allowing us to serve anyone living or working in Missoula County or School District 15 in Ravalli County. In 1992, those people living or working in Lake County south of Polson were added to the field of membership. In 2002, the field of membership was expanded to include all of Missoula, Ravalli, and Lake Counties.

Awards & Achievements:
We were honored with the "Sustainable New Venture of the Year Award for 2008" from the SBC for our new branch on Russell Street (only the 2nd LEED Platinum certified building in the state). For 14 years we have been chosen Missoula's Best Financial Institution and we pride ourselves on being a great employer. We offer over 20 different benefits to our staff, including the opportunity to volunteer in the community and be paid to do so!
